Use your real world experience to gain the professional accreditation employers respect.
If you’re an experienced people professional and can demonstrate how you meet the membership standards, become a member by completing an Experience Assessment.
You’ll complete a written submission and have a professional discussion with an experienced assessor. The knowledge you’ve gained, the way you work, and your impact as a people professional will be reviewed and assessed.
Experience Assessment can take as little as three months. This route does not require study or exams.
You’ll become an Associate Member, Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow, depending on your experience.
Experience Assessment is intended for those with recent experience working in the people profession. It gives you the opportunity to reflect on your career, skills and knowledge to date.
Through the assessment you will demonstrate you have the real-world knowledge and behaviours required for the CIPD membership grade you want to achieve. You can use any evidence of your work as a people practitioner, but it must come predominantly from the last five years.
If you want to talk about reasonable adjustments, we’re here to help. Contact the EA Support Team at ea@cipd.co.uk or call us on:
+44 (0) 20 8612 6238 (09:00 - 16:00 Mon - Fri UK time).
Take a 10-minute free pre-assessment to find out if you are eligible for Experience Assessment. The pre-assessment can also help you to choose the right grade to apply for and identify areas for development.
Choose when to start your assessment within three months. After registration and payment, you'll get access to CIPD member benefits. Your benefits will support you throughout your online assessment.
You'll spend around three days over a four week period completing a written submission which is accessed via the Learning hub.
You’ll have a virtual discussion with an experienced CIPD assessor to talk about your career and experience. This discussion lasts around 1.5 hours.
You'll get the outcome of your Experience Assessment within four weeks. If you're successful, you'll be awarded Associate Member, Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow grade and receive your CIPD certificate.
*The one-off assessment fee is non-refundable
**Your Membership fee covers up to 12 months, valid until 30 June 2025
***Next time you renew your membership, you’ll pay the membership fee for the grade you’re awarded.
