Providing resources from the CIPD to support your understanding of the four pillars of the Liverpool Fair Employment Charter
Over the past few years, as employment in the UK has continued to rise, there has been a shift in the focus of government and policymakers beyond merely the quantity of work in the economy, and now looking more closely at the quality of work. As a consequence, there is a lot of attention now given to ensuring people have access to 'Good Work'. This focus has come from all levels of government – central, devolved and local.
As part of this, the CIPD has been proud to work with a number of local authorities on localised employment charters and standards, notably with the Liverpool Combined Authority on the Fair Employment Charter. The CIPD's expertise on the world of work has been recognised by the Mayor and his team, as well as the impact that our members have on driving positive change in the workplace and making 'Good' and 'Fair' Work a reality. We have been working closely with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority on the development of their Fair Employment Charter, promoting and supporting good and fair work through the charter’s four key objectives; ensuring Healthy, Fair, Inclusive and Just work and workplaces, providing our resources to help businesses in the in Liverpool City Region to implement the Charter.
"Championing better work and working lives for the benefit of individuals, organisations and society lies at the heart of the CIPD's purpose which is why we are delighted to support the Liverpool Fair Employment Charter. There is a growing body of evidence suggesting that increasing the availability of good work in the economy is important not just to support people's wellbeing and development but also to boost their productivity."
"We look forward to working with the Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram, to support the promotion and adoption of the standard, highlighting the key CIPD resources available to employers to help them design better jobs and improve the quality of people management and development."
"The Fair Employment Charter is central to my vision of making ours the fairest, most inclusive region possible, and is now more important than ever as we look towards rebuilding our economy in the wake of the COVID pandemic."
"A fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work in safe, decent conditions should be the minimum any of us should expect in our working lives, and the great bulk of our employers in the city region deliver that. Our charter recognises the good employers and seeks to persuade the rest to do the decent thing."
"The CIPD has played an important role in developing the Charter and we will continue to work together to ensure that we set high employment standards within our city region while supporting businesses to thrive."
