We’re urging the government to work closely with employers and businesses bodies, to ensure the New Deal provides the right balance of employment rights and business flexibility.

Ben Willmott, Head of Public Policy, CIPD

The CIPD is working with HR leaders to give policy-makers all the evidence and insights they need to ensure the proposed New Deal for Working People will improve rather than undermine employment practices.

Employers have already expressed concerns about the unintended consequences of changes to unfair dismissal rules and we’ll be gathering further views and insights on:

  • Fire and rehire
  • Zero-hours contracts
  • Flexible working
  • Ethnicity, gender and disability pay gap reporting
  • Race Equality Act
  • Trade union rights
  • Maternity returners
  • Parental leave
  • Sick pay.

A new member-only resource on the CIPD website outlines the proposed changes in each of these areas – and the implications employers will need to consider.  We’ll also add details on proposals around menopause, employee voice, supporting terminally ill employees and employment tribunal procedure, when more information becomes available.

As further detail and draft legislation emerges, our public policy team will consult widely with CIPD members, and feed their views and insights into formal government consultations.
